Reproduction Thimble Keeps

This is what I have been doing this weekend.  Too hot to be outside so why not do some finishing.
These are fashioned after antiques thimble keeps.  These little keeps are multipurpose; the area that the thimble fits in is filled with emery to sharpen your needles, pins can be held on each end and the flap the hangs down holds needles and then wraps round the keep and is secured with a tie that twists around the button.  Of course they are distressed and stained to look old.
They each contain a thimble which is new, but can easily replaced with ones favorite thimble.  The prototype is sitting in a bowl of pin keeps in my living room holding my Grandfathers thimble from when he ran a hat and alteration shop.
I will be putting these up for sale on the website later this evening, so stop by and take a look.

Small Pieces of Franklin

This is the Carter House that is located in downtown Franklin. This house was in the center of the Battle of Franklin, November 30th, 1864. This battle was the beginning of the end for the Confederacy. During the 5 hour battle 5 Confederate generals where killed, there were 9,500 casualties total for both the Confederate and the Federal armies.

Resident cat that demanded some attention that my husband could not refuse.

This log cabin was where the meat for the farm was processed and stored.

Kitchen, located behind the house.

Pictures of the oldest public cemetery in Franklin, there are 4 Revolutionary Soldiers that survived the war and later laid to rest in this cemetery. I love all of the old headstones.

Notice the old dry stack stone walls. You find these walls all over middle Tennessee.

This is just one of my favorite little out buildings that I drive by just to look at and wonder what it used to be, house, office, shop? I could see living in it, if only I did not have so much furniture, and stitching stash!

Nice old chippy paint over the brick.

These condos while not old give the downtown area that old feel, they are quite elegant.

This picture is just as a reminder never boast of ones good fortune, because a big rain storm may come by just to humble one!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers Day!

Stitching Visitors

Oh what an exciting day! My visitors that I alluded to in the last post were
Lisa and Mariah Roswell of The Primitive Needle!

While they were vacationing here in Tennessee enjoying one of the many lakes, they took some time out to stop by. I had done some finishing for Lisa which she was picking up and we talked about some ideas she had for St. Charles. It was such a pleasure to meet her in person, we had talked on the phone and via email but nothing is better then real life. I had to show them around the house, lucky for them it is a small house, even so I had lots to show them. This is what happens when visitors are few and far between.

More of the Same

I know that stitching is what our main focus is supposed to be on this blog. However, I have been at a stand still with stitching but still felt that I needed to post some thing, so more flowers. The hydrangea bush above was at the house when we bought it, but we moved it and this is the first year that it has been covered with blooms. What is so neat is that it has all the colors on one bush.
Someone was telling me that Cleome is also called pins and needles so does that count as a stitching related post?
I am so proud of my corn it was planted mid may and as you can see it is as tall as me. At the base of the corn I have planted pole beans that I hope will use the corn stocks as their poles, as long as the bunnies don't eat them first. I have never tried it, but it sounded like a good idea.
I will keep you posted on how it works.
This last picture I'm putting in to show you just how large our Crape Myrtle has become, using me as the comparison. The bush in front of me is St Johns Wort just getting ready to bloom.

I have decided after looking at Anne's blog Scattered Moments, that while Franklin does not have the old world feel, it does have quite a history and some pretty cool houses, so I will be traveling around the area with camera in hand to take pictures of all the places that intrigue me. In the mean time I also hope to get back to stitching.

Tomorrow I off to Paris...oh that's Paris TN to help out at the Toyota fishing booth. And on Sunday I'm having a visitor coming to my house, I will let you know who on Sunday, it is stitching related, and I can't wait!

Till then have a great weekend!
